McCain

For those of you without TV and only the internets...

1) Obama rightly points out that we choose our presidents on their past judgment, not, as McCain would have it, from what they would theoretically put forth once the Presidential Crown was placed upon his head on Jan. 20, 2009. CHECK.

2) Obama addresses McCain directly, man-to-man, like an unembarrassed leader. McCain smirks, never looks towards Obama and begins to squirm and yelp when Obama drives home his point. CHECK.

3) And just to drive that point home one more time, take it away Obama: "If the question is: Who is best equipped as the next president to make good decisions on how we use our military, how we make sure we are prepared and ready for the next conflict? Then I think we can take a look at our judgment." CHECK.

My friend Jeff Shaw works for an alternative weekly in Minnesota as a blogger (Yup some weeklies somehow afford full-time bloggers, here at EW we blog because we like it. Or something like that). Jeff has had an interesting career. Seattle Mariners Blogger, Fulbright scholar to Japan and I do seem to remember a time period in which he seemed to be supporting himself playing online poker.

Jeff posted an analysis of McCain versus Obama to his blog today based on their gambling preferences.

It goes something like this: McCain plays craps, a dice game based on chance in which statistically if you keep playing, you will always lose money.

Obama favors poker, a game in which, according to Jeff (who would know) if you use some skill, you can win and actually make money.

Hmmmm. It's all about the strategery.

It wasn't reported in the R-G today but a call for President George W. Bush's impeachment is making international headlines.

Following up on his call to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney, former Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich called for the impeachment of President Bush yesterday.

Rep. Kucinich of Ohio introduced 35 articles of impeachment against Bush on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, amid noise and calls to get the House "in order."

Kucinich accused Bush and Cheney of lying to Congress and the American people. The president set out to deceive U.S. citizens and violated his oath of office by beginning the Iraq war, Kucinich said, as he read a list of allegations against Bush.

"Bush misled the American people and members of Congress to believe Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction so as to manufacture a false case for war. President George W. Bush, by such conduct, is guilty of an impeachable offense warranting removal from office," Kucinich said.

According to a press release from Kucinich's office, the representative's re-election website "was shut down this morning by a series of suspicious and fast-moving events" within hours of Kucinich introducing the articles of impeachment.

In other (potential) presidential news, apparently John McCain really needs a beer. Or maybe not, since he says he would veto every single beer that came across his desk if he became the leader of the free world...
