Question of the Week

Do reggae and hip hop fans have way more discretionary income to spend on concert tickets than indie-rock fans, or are indie-rock fans just antisocial, home-dwelling, music-stealing cheapskates?

indie rock fans don't wanna

indie rock fans don't wanna pay for entry into shows because they dont actually like the headlining band. well, i mean they used to, but they got all big and now everyone else likes them, you know? it's like... whatever. that band is so five minutes ago.

i think it's an issue of loyalty. most hip hop/reggae fans are very loyal, most indie rock people could give a shit, always moving onto the next buzzworthy thing. why do you ask?

Over the years in Eugene

Over the years in Eugene I've just noticed that the hip hop and reggae shows I've attended drew a large, frequently sold out crowd (and these shows are NOT cheap), whereas some of the indie-rock shows I've been to have been embarrassingly undersold (for excellent live acts) and the tickets are always cheaper than reggae/hip hop acts. Of course, they can get away with inflating the ticket prices given such demand.

Of course, a healthy-sized crowd showed up for the Dr. Dog/Delta Spirit/Hacienda show at the WOW Hall last night. They experienced something special, methinks.

arent there just a shitload

arent there just a shitload more indie shows to water down attendance than the reggae/hiphop crowds?

plus...i gotta say there cant be a more well off group of folks than indie kids in general*. i mean, this isnt even a contest. inde/hipsterdom and all of its high art and ironic leanings is almost exclusively an upper middle class pastime dont you think?

*of course, besides the three young jazz and classical music fans out there. and they listen to indie rock on the side anyway.
