Musicians: How To Promote Your Show (to EW)

In case you missed out on the "How to Promote Your Show to the Media" panel discussion last Friday night (which included me and Molly), I've pasted below the info that went on our helpful handout.

Deadlines & Details

MUSIC STORIES
Deadline is at LEAST two weeks before the issue that would cover your show. Please send a copy of your CD and a short bio (or link to short bio online) to MOLLY TEMPLETON (molly@eugeneweekly.com), the music editor. First priority is given to local bands with upcoming CD releases, provided they meet the deadline.

CALENDAR LISTINGS
Send a copy of the basic details pertaining to your show (name of band(s), time show starts, location, specify 21+ or all ages, cost of admission, style of music) to CHUCK ADAMS (cal@eugeneweekly.com), the calendar editor, no later than the Thursday before the Thursday issue you want to appear in. For example, if your show is on Dec. 26, the deadline would be Dec. 13 at noon. We can’t guarantee we’ll print late submissions.

  • If you’re hoping to be considered for a story AND to get your show in the Calendar and Nightlife sections, please send info to both of us! The best way? Email music@eugeneweekly.com, and we both get a copy! [UPDATE: Suzi, our classical music/performing arts editor, also gets a copy, so make that three birds, one stone!]
  • If you want to get a photo in either Calendar or Nightlife, please send it to Chuck.

Some things to keep in mind when sending images:

  1. DO NOT just send a link to your MySpace page. Please?
  2. DO have more than one promotional image; we don’t like to run the same picture repeatedly.
  3. DO NOT send a photo of four dudes standing against a wall.
(This also goes for four dudes sitting on a couch.)
  4. DO make sure that your image is high-resolution (300 dpi) so it will look nice in print.
  5. DO NOT print your band’s name anywhere on the image
(other than in the bottom corner, in tiny print, if you must).
Hey wait a second! If you

Hey wait a second! If you have classical music info, you should *also* email it to me! (And Brett, but I'm not giving his email addy on the blog.) Me: Suzi AT eugeneweekly DOT com

(This can all be solved by just sending the info actually to the music address. Chuck, Molly and I all get that email. But still.)

It is great to see that someone has thought about promoting our young talents because nowadays we seem to have forgotten that true value is not measured by how many cds you sell.
